This is really a fascinating interview. It's amazing, it teaches one to look at stars' faces as if for the first time. Thanks!

I like when he said something like that he could find show girls in any show more beautiful than the top stars, as far as technical beauty goes, but that the show girls beauty will be too close to perfection, and therefore lack individuality, which the stars had in abundance.

It's a flattering thing to say to a girl who isn't so beautiful. ;) But I see his point. Some beauties are a bit bland and easy to forget. I once heard an opera enthusiast say the same thing about Maria Callas' voice: there was another soprano of her day who was technically much better, with better control over her voice, etc. But the audiences always preferred Callas' with all her flaws and eccentricities because you couldn't mistake her voice for anyone else's, and she made the songs more interesting, and not just more melodious to hear.

Thats interesting stuff. I remember one of your posts on Gatochy's a while back. It was a computer generated photo of what a perfect womans face would look like.(I still have it on file) Every feature on the womans face was so technically perfect it made her look rather bland...attractive...but there was nothing that stood out to give her a great face. The generated face had no supposed facial defects, like the upturned nose of Myrna Loy, the high forehead of Carole Lombard, or the cleft chin of Harlow....so it was just another face. And as you said, the same would also apply to singing voice, and I think it also applies to acting. Paul Muni was considered a technically great actor in his day. He so completely immersed himself in his roles that none of his individual personality came through. I do think hes a fine actor, but I think he just lacks that cetain individuality that made other less technically perfect actors so special.
